Today, post breakfast, spend the morning at leisure. Later in the afternoon, enjoy the UNESCO’s World heritage site Park Güell , one of the most characteristic images of Barcelona. Below the square, the roof is supported by 86 Doric columns shaped like trees, with paths between them, and viaducts on sloping columns: Gaudí’s work unites nature and architecture like no other does. Later, we will take you to discover the most well-known building of Antoni Gaudi, one of the greatest innovators of his time worked and lived in Barcelona. The Sagrada Familia is one of the most visited buildings in the world. We will visit the astonishing interior of this church Basilica, where vaults reach seventy meters. We will also visit the Sagrada Familia museum, where you will see an exhibition of drawings, plaster models and pictures about the history and development of this Basilica from its early beginnings to the present day. At the end of the museum visit, the guide will leave you at the entrance of the elevator to the tower, you have admission included. Today, we will depart for a lifetime excursion to Catalonia’s most emblematic mountain topped by a Benedictine Monastery, where you will not only be able to admire the beauty of Montserrat Natural Park and its rare rock formations, but visit the breath-taking Abbey of Montserrat. After driving through picturesque little villages you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat, rising majestically to 1,235m. To get to the mountain, climb almost 550 metres by the Montserrat rack railway, departing from Monistrol station. The train follows the remarkable contours of the mountains, providing you with unforgettable views of Montserrat and the surrounding countryside. Visit the Royal Basilica, housing the Moreneta or Black Madonna, a 12th century Romanesque carving. The basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for centuries. Enjoy a brief audio-visual presentation and learn all about life behind the monastery walls. Afterwards you will get the chance to taste some liqueurs prepared in the abbey and have plenty of time to explore the attractions of Montserrat for yourselves, including the basilica, the choir, the museums. Its historic centre, lorded over by a colossal Gothic cathedral, is an intoxicating mix of resplendent Mudéjar palaces, baroque churches and winding medieval lanes. Flamenco clubs keep the intimacy and intensity of this centuries-old tradition alive whilst aristocratic mansions recall the city’s past as a showcase Moorish capital and, later, a 16th-century metropolis rich on the back of New World trade. Today post breakfast, we will start off in Santa Cruz, the former Jewish Quarter. Wander through this maze of narrow streets, cool alleys and sunny plazas leading to the gorgeous Plaza de los Venerables with its beautifully restored 17th century hospital. Next we’ll continue the sightseeing tour with a visit to Real Alcazar, a splendid palace built in the Mudejar style by Pedro I in the 14th century. We’ll also stop to admire the cathedral, which is the final resting place of Christopher Colombus. In the city centre, we’ll pass by the university, which was the once a vast tobacco factory, the Palace of San Telmo, the Torre del Oro, the Bridge of Isabel II and the Basilica of la Macarena. Then you’ll have free time to make your own arrangements for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the fascinating Bullfighting Museum at the Real Maestranza with its collection of bullfighting memorabilia and oil paintings. Enjoy a tour of the popular neighbourhood of Triana, traditional home to bullfighters, seafarers and potters, and a renowned stronghold of flamenco before boarding a river cruiser for a wonderful boat trip down the Guadalquivir. Artistically the city holds its own against any in Europe, with the of the best art museums on the continent where renaissance masterworks and seminal 20th-century pieces are waiting to captivate you. Look at all the historic sights and get the background on the Spanish Empire that spanned the globe in the 16th and 17th-centuries. There are also countless little things that make Madrid memorable, whether that’s a café con leche in a stately square, drinks at a rooftop bar or a wander through the Retiro or Casa de Campo on a sunny day. Enjoy your breakfast in the morning, Later in the day we’ll start with a mid-day visit to the Royal Palace and then we’ll go on a fully-guided panoramic tour of Madrid where you can learn about the origins of Spain’s fascinating capital city through its architecture. Built on the site of the former Palace of the Hapsburgs, the Royal Palace was the official residence of the Spanish monarchy from 1765 to 1931. This official visit includes the State Rooms, Charles III’s Chambers, Museums, the Royal Chapel and the Chambers of Isabel II. Then during the scenic tour, you’ll get to see the most important and representative buildings and monuments of Madrid, including the beautiful quarters of Madrid of the Hapsburgs and Madrid of the Bourbons. We will also visit monuments from the time of the reign of Joseph Bonaparte in the 19th century including the elegant Plaza de Oriente and the Prado Museum from outside. You will also discover the boulevards of contemporary Madrid; the Gran Via, the Paseo de la Castellana, the Salamanca quarter, the Plaza de Castilla, the Parque del Oeste, the University Quarter, the commercial and business areas of Modern Madrid, the Las Ventas bullring.
