ITINERARY

At the Paro Airport, TCI representative will meet and greet and then drive you directly to Thimpu. Welcome to Thimpu, where smiling faces and mesmerizing mountain ranges will be greeting you. We will take the scenic drive and treat you with views of mesmerizing mountains and flowing rivers. On reaching Thimphu, check-in at the hotel, In the evening, we will depart to the Memorial Chorten, a row of wooden platforms sits in the long grass. The Chorten, with its elaborate golden peak representing the crescent moon and sun, is one of Thimphu’s most striking religious landmarks. The Tibetan-style chorten’s whitewashed exterior boasts richly decorated chapels facing each of the cardinal directions. Refresh overnight at you hotel in Thimphu.

Today after breakfast, we will start the day with a visit to the Kuensel Phodrang, the statue in bronze in China and transported by sea and road to this site once occupied by the palace of Druk Desi, a secular ruler of Bhutan in the eighteenth-century followed by the Takin Reserve & Mini Zoo where you can see the Takin. Next, we will visit the Nunnery as the road to the nunnery offers magnificent views of Tashichho Dzong, while the small complex houses a covered chorten and an unusual pillar topped with two carved deer. This will be followed by the Royal Textile Academy and the Folk Heritage Museum. Finally we will see the Tashichho Dzong. while the National Assembly no longer convenes inside the fortress’s whitewashed walls, the king’s office is still there. After a wonderful day, spend the late evening at leisure in Thimphu.

This early morning after a sumptuous breakfast, we will visit Dochu La which is the  mountain pass leading further into the Punakha Valley offering stunning panoramic views of Eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. The view is especially scenic on clear, winter days with snowcapped mountains forming a majestic backdrop to the tranquility of the 108 chortens gracing the mountain pass. Enjoy lunch at newly open restaurant Druk Wangyel Cafe. Refresh overnight at your hotel in Punakha.

Today will be a wonderful day at Punakhaa as we will start off with the Chimi LhaKhang that marks the spot where Drukpa Kunley defeated and buried a much-feared demoness, today the hilltop lhakhang is visited by expectant mothers and families with newborns to pray for their children’s health.  Although please do note that a walking of good 45 minutes has to be undertaken to enjoy this site. Then we will see the Suspension Bridge, the longest of its kind in Bhutan and will proceed to the Punakha Dzong over a long cantilever bridge that spans the Mo Chhu and up a steep flight of wooden steps. The first dochey or courtyard houses Punakha dzongkhag’s government offices, with darkened passages leading south around the six-story utse to the monastic quarters that line the second courtyard. Return back to the hotel.

This early morning after a sumptuous breakfast, we will depart for Paro again as this picturesque region is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom. Visit the Drukgyel Dzong located at the head of the Paro valley where the magnificent Drukgyel Dzong from 1649 has stood along a major route into Tibet for three centuries until it burned to the ground in a 1951 fire. Next will be the Kyichu Lakhang allowing Buddhism to flourish above and is believed to hold the demoness’s left foot in place. With its tiered roof and luminous white walls, the lhakhang’s age is not immediately apparent. It is only inside the monastery’s ancient heart, the Jowo Lhakhang, that the sanctuary’s long history is palpable. Golden murals shine faintly from smoke-darkened walls, and the floor has been polished smooth by the feet of countless faithful practitioners. Finally for today will be a visit to Ta Dzong the National Musuem of Bhutan.

We will start the day early today as we will be on our way to the famous Tiger’s Nest Temple , also known as the Temple or Taksang Monastery. Perched precariously on the edge of a 1200 m cliff, this monastery is an impressive sight and the unofficial symbol of Bhutan. The up-hill hike should take around 2 hours, so it is recommended you wear comfortable walking shoes and carry light refreshments with water. An option to ride a horse from the parking lot to the monastery is also available at your own expense. Alternately, you could also hike for about an hour to reach a cafeteria – a wooden tea-house restaurant which offers a good view of the monastery.

We will start the day early today as we will be on our way to the Chele La Pass where the nearby villagers are typically yak herders and farmers, they cultivate high altitude crops such as wheat, potatoes, barley and millet. The drive from Paro takes you to the highest motorable road in Bhutan so be prepared for spectacular views. You can see Paro valley on one side and then Haa valley on the other. You can also have a picnic at Chele La if you like to. We will then return to Paro in the evening.

All good things have to come to an end but not before you grab a good breakfast as our representative will be waiting at the lobby for you with your private car to assist you well in time to proceed to the airport.
